Turk's head knot Turk's head knots are often used for decoration on for example bridle parts, neck ropes, rope halter tie ends and other types of tack. As end knots on for exampel mecate reins they do however also have a practical function of preventing the rope from slipping through the knot and coming undone when the rein is tied to a headstall.
Turk's head knots can be made in many different sizes depending on what they they are going to be used for, but to simplify things a bit I have 3 different sizes:
- Small (€3): about 1,7 cm wide (11/16"), fits single and double 6 mm ropes.
- Medium (€4): about 2 cm wide (13/16"), fits double 6 mm ropes and single 10 mm ropes.
- Large (€6): about 2,5 cm wide (1"), fits single 14 mm ropes (among other things)
Turk's head knots can be made in 2 different patterns: gaucho weave and herringbone weave. You can see what the two patterns look like on the pictures to the right. I normally make turk's head knots with 2 colors so that the pattern is visible, but if you rather want solid-colored turk's head knots I can of course do that too. |
